“In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”
Menstruation is a huge part of every woman’s life. The first ever menstrual bleeding will mark the age of maturity (buloogh) for a girl. This means that all the laws of Shari’ah will now apply to her. For e.g Salaah, Fasting, Zakah, Hijab etc.
It is mandatory for every woman to know the days of her Haidh (menstrual bleeding) , Nifaas (post natal bleeding) & Tuhoor (purity period). This is extremely important as the rulings for a woman who doesn’t know her cycle are very serious, such as having a ghusl for each salaah, not being able to keep optional fasts / perform optional salaah etc. It will also affect the intimacy with her spouse.
It is obligatory to keep a detailed record of one’s menstrual cycle. This should include:
- Period start date & time.
- Period finish date & time.
- The colour of discharge
One should not simply rely on apps as many apps calculate the cycle differently to the way it is done in Shari’ah. The above points must be noted down in detail, whether one is using a diary or an app.
