بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
“In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”
Ruling No 1: If for some reason, a person has not been able to fast during Ramadhan, then they will have to make up for the fasts. This is known as Qadha. Qadha fasts should be kept as soon as possible, one will be sinful for delaying them without any reason.
Ruling No 2: It is necessary to make an intention for qadha fasts the night before, in other words before subah sadiq (fajr beginning time) . If a person makes intention after subah sadiq (fajr beginning time) then the fast will be considered as a nafl (optional) fast. One will have to keep the qadha fast again.
Ruling No 3: It is better to keep qadha fasts than to keep optional (nafl) fasts. This is because if one does not keep the optional fasts, then they will not be sinful. However qadha fasts are compulsory & one will be sinful for not completing them.
Ruling No 4: If one wishes to, they may keep their qadha fasts continuously or with breaks in between.
Ruling No 5: If a person has qadha fasts of a few ramadhans, then they will have to specify the year in their intention. If one does not remember the year then they will make the intention for making up the first missed fast each time.
Ruling No 6: If one has qadha fasts & ramadhan comes then during ramadhan one should keep the fasts of ramadhan & not the qadha fasts. Qadha fasts should be kept after Eid.
Ruling No 7: Women will have to make up for the fasts that they miss due to menstruation or bleeding after child birth.
