Du’aas For Those Looking To Get Married / Struggling To Conceive

“In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”

Scholars have mentioned that the du’aas for having children should be recited by those looking to get married, as in order for Allah ﷻ to grant one children, He will have to grant them a spouse first. Therefore the following du’aas should be recited in abundance by couples trying for children & those looking for a spouse.

1. The du’aa of Zakariyyah AS when he became old and wanted children. Due to his age there was no hope of getting children. However, when he saw Maryam AS eating fruit that was out of season his hopes were rekindled. Hence he made this Dua. Whoever is barren should read this Dua excessively.

O Lord, grant me from yourselfself noble offspring; verily you are the hearer of prayers. [Surah Al-Imraan, Ayah 38]

2. The du’aa of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). He made this du’aa in old age asking Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for righteous offspring. He was then blessed with Isma’eel (a.s) & Ishaaq (a s).

My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous.” [Surah Saffat, Ayah 100]

3. Another du’aa of Ibrahim (a.s)

My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication. [Surah Ibrahim Ayah 40]

4. Recite the following du’aa in abundance. Scholars also recommend reciting this du’aa in the last raka’ah of the fardh salaah, in the final sitting before doing salaam & after reciting tashahhud & durood shareef.

Our Lord! Grant unto us spouses and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous.” [Surah Furqaan Ayah 74]

5. This is another du’aa Zakariyah (a.s) made. His wife was barren, Allah cured her & Allah blessed them with Yahya (a.s). Scholars also recommend reciting this dua 40 times in sajdah in salatul hajah for those who are struggling to conceive / barren etc.

My Lord, do not leave me alone (with no heir), while You are the best of the inheritors. [Surah Anbiya Ayah 89]

6. The du’aa of Musa (AS). Heread this Du’aa at the time of difficulty and was relieved of his difficulty & blessed with a job & wife.

O Allah! I am in dire need of the good that you will send to me. [Surah Qasas:24]

7. Recite surah maryam as much as you can. This has been recommended by many scholars. Read upon the tafseer of this surah, it will fill your heart with hope, faith & comfort.

This surah consists of the story of Zakariyah (a.s) whose wife was barren & Allah ﷻ blessed them with a child at an old very age. It also mentions of how Maryam (a.s) was blessed with Esa (a.s) whilst she was a virgin.

Do we not feel content & hopeful in knowing that, if Allah ﷻ has the power of curing a barren women & blessing a woman with a child whilst she was not even touched by a male, then surely it is no big deal for Him to bless us with children or grant us any of our duas! SubanAllah!

8. Increase in Istighfaar. Not only by uttering astagfirullah with the tongue but by bringing a change to our lives. Sincere repentance entails stopping the unlawful and performing all obligations. There is a special connection between seeking forgiveness and the bestowal of blessings upon the servant, particularly the blessing of children, as Allah ﷻ states quoting Nuh (a.s): “So I said, ‘Seek forgiveness of your Lord-Surely, He is very forgiving! [If you seek forgiveness:] He will send down rain upon you in abundance; and He will increase you in wealth and in children, and will assign for you gardens, and assign for you rivers.” (71:10-12)

9. The du’aa of Umm Salama (r.a). How beautiful is this du’aa? SubhanAllah! Ponder upon the meaning, repeat this dua continuously, whenever you face any loss, difficulty or calamity. Whether it may be the loss of something as small as a watch or as big as a job /wealth. Whether it may be the loss of a marriage, a child, a miscarriage or upon the sadness a woman struggling with infertility feels every month, when she sees that her menses have started. There is so much hope in this dua. In Sahih Muslim it has been mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ has said, that if any servant (of Allah) who suffers a calamity says this dua, Allah ﷻ will give him reward for his affliction & will give him something better than it in exchange. SubhanAllah!

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we will return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better than it.
